Choose your tyres

New tyres in Poole, from budget to premium

Whether you need one tyre or a full set, we supply and fit new tyres in Poole at our Banbury Road depot or wherever your vehicle is parked. Freeway Mobile Tyres is a family-run business that has been in the tyre trade since 1990. We'll talk you through the options plainly, so you get the right tyre for your driving and your budget.

We stock tyres in three bands:

  • Budget: a safe, legal tyre at the lowest price, a sensible choice for lower-mileage driving.
  • Mid-range: a good balance of grip, comfort and wear for everyday use.
  • Premium: the top-performing option for drivers who cover a lot of miles or want the most from their vehicle.

Tell us how you use your vehicle and we'll recommend honestly, not upsell.

Tyres for every vehicle we work on

We fit tyres on cars, vans, 4x4s, caravans, motorhomes and trailers. For more detail, see our pages on car tyres in Poole, van and commercial tyres and caravan, trailer and motorhome tyres.

What's included in every tyre price

Every quote is all-in, with no hidden extras:

  • The new tyre
  • Fitting
  • Wheel balancing
  • A new rubber valve
  • Disposal of your old tyre

You can bring your vehicle to the depot, or we can come to you. Our mobile tyre fitting service covers your home, your workplace or the roadside. If you're happy to come to us, the depot is where we can offer our best price.

How to find your tyre size

Your tyre size is printed on the sidewall. It looks something like 205/55 R16 91V, and each part means something:

  • 205: the width of the tyre in millimetres.
  • 55: the profile, which is the height of the sidewall as a percentage of the width.
  • R16: "R" means radial construction, and 16 is the diameter of the wheel rim in inches.
  • 91: the load index, a code for the maximum weight each tyre can carry.
  • V: the speed rating, a code for the maximum speed the tyre is designed for.

Your handbook also lists the correct sizes. Never fit a tyre with a lower load index or speed rating than your vehicle needs.

When to replace your tyres

The UK legal minimum tread depth for cars is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tread, all the way around the tyre. Grip in the wet drops off as tread wears, so many drivers choose to change their tyres at around 3mm rather than wait for the legal limit.

Tread isn't the only thing to look for. Signs you need new tyres include:

  • Tread close to the wear indicators, the small raised bars inside the main grooves
  • Cracking or crazing on the sidewall, which often comes with age
  • Bulges, lumps or cuts in the rubber
  • Uneven wear, such as one edge worn more than the other

Unsure? We'll tell you honestly whether a tyre has life left in it.

All-season and winter tyres

Most cars in the UK leave the factory on summer tyres, which work well for much of the year. All-season tyres use a compound and tread pattern designed to cope with a wider range of temperatures, so you can keep them on all year without swapping. Winter tyres go further, with softer rubber and deeper siping for cold, wet and icy roads.

Dorset winters are usually mild, so all-season tyres can be a sensible middle ground for drivers who start early or use rural roads. We're happy to talk you through the options for your vehicle.
