Signs your brakes need attention

Brake wear happens gradually, so it's easy to miss. Book a check if you notice:

• Squealing or squeaking when you brake. Many pads have a wear indicator designed to make this noise.
• Grinding or scraping, which can mean the pads are worn down to the metal and are damaging the discs
• Vibration or pulsing through the pedal or steering wheel, often a sign of warped discs
• The car pulling to one side under braking
• A brake warning light on the dashboard
• A soft or spongy pedal, or one that travels further than usual
• A visible lip or deep scoring on the edge of the brake disc

Pads, discs or both?

Brake pads wear faster than discs and are usually replaced more often. Discs wear too. When they're below their minimum thickness, scored or warped, they need replacing, and new pads are always fitted with new discs. We'll measure yours and explain which you need.

While the wheels are off, it's a good moment to check your tyres. If they're low, we can quote for new car tyres and fit them in the same visit. We can also replace a tired car battery while we're there.
